5 Minute Mani: Simple Stripes (creamsicle again!)

Something about a pastel-ish orange paired with white is just so, so summery to me.  It has to be the association with Creamsicles.  Anyway, here's a super quick mani that I wore to a baseball game last night- got complimented by the girl at the counter when I went and got some nachos, so you know they're good ;)

Harry Potter Premiere

I went to see Harry Potter last night.  The movie was awesome, and so was using it as an excuse to make some fun new things!  I painted these nails on Tuesday, which was pretty ambitious of me (believing that they'd last that long), but the good news is... they did survive!  With only a few small chips.

Once again, the design looked much much better in my mind than in actuality.  I was inspired by the last battle between Harry and Voldemort, shown here:

Here's what I ended up with:

Ignore that black splotch, it's fabric paint from the t-shirt I made

If you can't tell, it's supposed to be the two wands and their stream/spells reaching across and colliding together.  And on my thumbs I have HP in gold and silver.

I think it turned out ok.  My friends really loved it.  I also tried a splatter background for the first time, and I think with practice that's going to be a new technique I use fairly often.

Also thanks to my awesome fiance for taking these (and bout 40 other) photos for me, since it was impossible for me to do.

Katy Perry E.T. Music Video Inspired Mani

So Katy Perry's new music video for E.T. was released recently.  At first I was kind of meh on the song, but it has grown on my hugely (except for Kanye's part... "I know a bar out in mars/ where they drive spaceships instead of cars" REALLY?!  That's the best you could do?) but I am in LOVE with the visuals.  So I did.... well, this.

It was kinda fun!  I really like the way the braid came out, and the one that kind of looks like giraffe spots.  I might use those designs some other time.

Here's some screencaps that I used for inspiration:

Spring Monarch Butterfly Mani

Finally completed that butterfly manicure I attempted a few days ago!  I think it came out pretty nicely!  My right hand- not so much.  But I'm pretty proud of how this turned out!

Before I attempted to clean some of the skuzz from my cuticles

Not too shabby, right?

Daisy French Manicure

Well the good news is that my "interview" nails from Thursday night lasted all the way until Sunday!  That's basically a record for me.  Since they were too short to wrap the lip, they started looking a little bit worn about the ends so I preemptively removed them instead of waiting to peel them off later in the day.  I attempted a monarch butterfly wing manicure and FAILED miserably.  I didn't even attempt my right hand, and removed the whole shebang almost immediately after I completed it.

But I needed to do SOMETHING... bare nails for me are just asking to be gnawed down to nubbins.  So I went with something super quick and simple (it was like 1am, I had just gotten home from a night out at the pub with some friends from class- we were all drowning our sorrows and talking about how terribly our interviews had gone) and springy to welcome not only the first day of Spring, but my first day of Spring break.

My thumb looks WAY worse in the photo than in person.
Don't know what's up with that!

I don't expect these to last a remarkably long time because I have tons of ideas up my sleeve and an entire week to experiment.  But I thought they were kind of cute for a five minute mani.
