Rainbow Dot Nails

I've seen this style floating around the Internet lately, and seeing as how I can't let a rainbow pass me by, I decided to give it a shot.  I received a set of dotting tools for Christmas- yay!- so this was my first shot at using them!  Very cool!

Not too shabby!  There's a few things I would do differently next time, but overall I think it was fun and bright and cute for the end of 2012!

Quickie Holiday Mani

This was one of those times where I needed to do something with my nails, but I didn't have a lot of time to spend on them.  So I grabbed a couple glitters and my go-to white base, and boom.  Quick and easy holiday mani!  I used a new green glitter that I picked up from the store the other day, and the red glitter I got from Priti NYC back in August (and was all excited to use for Christmas even back then!)

Harry Potter Premiere

I went to see Harry Potter last night.  The movie was awesome, and so was using it as an excuse to make some fun new things!  I painted these nails on Tuesday, which was pretty ambitious of me (believing that they'd last that long), but the good news is... they did survive!  With only a few small chips.

Once again, the design looked much much better in my mind than in actuality.  I was inspired by the last battle between Harry and Voldemort, shown here:

Here's what I ended up with:

Ignore that black splotch, it's fabric paint from the t-shirt I made

If you can't tell, it's supposed to be the two wands and their stream/spells reaching across and colliding together.  And on my thumbs I have HP in gold and silver.

I think it turned out ok.  My friends really loved it.  I also tried a splatter background for the first time, and I think with practice that's going to be a new technique I use fairly often.

Also thanks to my awesome fiance for taking these (and bout 40 other) photos for me, since it was impossible for me to do.

Matte Black and Shine, and a teeny Ulta haul.

Saw this design floating around the internet and decided to give it a go.  It came out okay... looks way better in person, but if I were to do it again, I'd do a few things differently.

I used a matte black and covered it in a matte topcoat.  The I used SV on the tips.  Next time, I would do tips in a non-matte black color and THEN a topcoat of SV for extra shine and to really make the separation more obvious.  But for a first, time, I don't think it's too shabby.

SV topcoat

Annnd today I went to Ulta for the first time (it is right down the street, that's really a crying shame) looking for crackle nailpolish (no go) BUT I discovered their clearance section and snapped up two OPI matte/suedes and a pink Essie.  I'm totally going to do the green and pink together- how springy!  Maybe I'll do another watermelon design.  Each one was like 50% off- each $4.99 for each bottle, regularly $8-$8.50.  Score!
